If you subscribe to DSL internet service using your telephone line, DSL filters must be plugged into EVERY phone jack that has a phone connected to it. The DSL signal can cause static, noise, squealing (similar to fax tones), caller ID disruption and other issues on your line. DSL filters block the high frequency DSL signals from being transmitted to the telephone. For most installations, it is recommended that you connect the plug end of the DSL filter into the telephone jack, then connect a telephone line cord between the jack end of the filter and your phone. Thanks in advance. You don't have to install a new cable for the modem but it is recommended. You could use two of the other wires in the white cable. Total network inventory 3 crackheads. EG: Green & black - doesn't really matter which two. If you do that though the fun part will be finding and opening every phone jack in the house and finding out which one is the first in the chain as that is the one that will become your modem socket. If you don't want the modem at that socket then you need to start joining the pair of wires that you selected above until you get them working at the phone jack you want the modem at. You would then remove the red and white wires from the back of the socket and punch down the new pair of wires. Hi all, I need a master filter and I want to install myself to save a few dollars. Thanks From what I understand you are not allowed in that box assuming it is one of those with security screws. You need to do it where it actually enters the house inside. The 'box' (it's called an ETP - external termination point) might be chorus owned in theory, but it's on your property and attached to your house so they can't really stop you doing what you like to it. The only risk you take is being charged for a future fault repair if they decide you caused it yourself. In any case it is the correct place to install the filter and it's where chorus would have it installed if you paid them to do it. Eventually traced the fault to one run of the CAT5 cable as it had been crushed by staples in the roof! Surprised the phone/internet was working at all. Never use staples to hold a CAT5/6 cable! Had to run a new cable inside the roof which was about 60 degrees!
